As such, they need tools installed which provide the server operating system with drivers that match the virtual environment and enable some of the capabilities of virtualization. If you’re running Windows Server 2012, the Hyper-V Tools are baked into the operating system.
Click Custom to manage disk space and display the disk configuration. Click Next so you can choose the operating system version to install. Type OS installation key.Take note that if you are using a DVD from a textbook, you may not need a key. Click Next to display the options, Install now or Repair your computer.

As you'd expect, Windows Server retains power user features like the Command Prompt and other administrative tools. However, Server editions of Windows strip out a lot of the quality-of-life features that Windows 10 includes. This might sound ridiculous, but there are good reasons for these high hardware caps.
Provide a new computer name in the appropriate box and click the OK button. Note that changing the server name will require you to restart the machine. Some software designed for a regular Windows operating system may not work on Windows server. These kinds of software perform operating system checks during or after installion when opening the program. This used to be a problem back in the early days, but compatibility is starting to bear fruit as of the current version of Windows Server 2019.
By clicking the “Enabled” option below in the “Local Security Setting” tab, you will no longer be required to press CTRL+ALT+DEL when logging into your Windows Server computer. By default, a lot of configuration options in Windows Server have either been disabled since they’re not needed in a server or optimized to serve content. However, if you’re running a different version of Windows Server or are using VMware, make sure to install either the Hyper-V or VMware Tools. Most of what you probably need a server for in a home network setting can probably be handled with existing products. Desktop versions of Windows may be crippled by how many connections they're permitted to handle at once, but in a home environment, you will likely never approach those limits. If you do need to get around those limits, it is possible to use Linux to do so, provided you don't run into any hardware-support issues. Even for those who want or need it, Windows Home Server isn't quite baked yet.
